Celebrating 51 Years of Astrology, Community, and Continuing Education: SDAS Featured in SD Voyager

We're thrilled to share that the San Diego Astrological Society (SDAS) was recently featured in SD Voyager, offering a beautiful opportunity to highlight our history, mission, and the heart of our community. Through her interview, our president, Heather Stern, helped spotlight SDAS—honoring our rich legacy, our ongoing growth, and the vibrant community we’ve cultivated for more than five decades.

A Legacy Rooted in Education, Ethics, and Community

Founded on April 5, 1974, SDAS has long been dedicated to advancing astrology as both an art and a science. From the beginning, our mission has been clear:

  • To provide education in meaningful, accessible, and high-quality astrology.

  • To uphold ethics and integrity, encouraging thoughtful, responsible practice.

  • To foster community, bringing astrologers of all backgrounds together to share perspectives, learn, and grow.

For over 51 years, SDAS has served as a welcoming hub for anyone curious about astrology—whether new to the craft, steeped in study, or practicing professionally.

Weathering Challenges, Strengthening Purpose

Like many organizations, SDAS felt the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. When in-person gatherings were paused for nearly two years, our natural rhythm of connection, learning, and shared exploration was disrupted. The pause also made one of our long-standing challenges even clearer: despite being one of San Diego’s oldest and most established astrological organizations, many in the local community still don’t know we exist.

At the same time, astrology has experienced a remarkable resurgence in recent years. More people than ever are seeking deeper understanding, meaningful guidance, and a sense of community. This cultural shift has opened a renewed opportunity for SDAS—an invitation to expand our reach and welcome new seekers into our circle with heart, integrity, and more than five decades of accumulated wisdom.

To support this growing interest and make our offerings accessible to a wider audience, we’ve recently added a virtual component to our monthly meetings via Zoom. Guests can now join us from anywhere in the world, creating new possibilities for connection and learning far beyond San Diego.

Our Annual Bazaar: A Celebration of Community

One of the highlights each year is our Annual Bazaar, our primary fundraising event and one of our most joyful traditions. It brings together astrologers, tarot readers, energy healers, and curious community members for a day of learning, connection, and exploration.

The Bazaar is not just a fundraiser—it’s an invitation. A doorway into our community. A place to meet local readers, discover new modalities, and feel the heart of SDAS in action.

We hope to see this event continue to grow, and we welcome anyone who feels drawn to astrology, spirituality, or community-centered wisdom.

A Volunteer-Powered Organization with Diverse Perspectives

SDAS is entirely volunteer-run, guided by a dedicated team of board members who balance their careers, families, studies, personal spiritual practices, and still make time to share their gifts with us. Our leadership reflects the diversity of the astrological world:

  • Traditional Western astrologers

  • Evolutionary astrologers

  • Tarot practitioners

  • Jyotish (Vedic) astrologers

  • And more

This range of perspectives keeps our community dynamic, inclusive, and rich with opportunities to learn from one another.

Monthly Meetings and Growing Offerings

Every month, on the second Friday, SDAS hosts a public lecture at our long-standing meeting space, located at the Joyce Beers Community Center within The Hub Hillcrest Market.

Each lecture features an experienced astrologer presenting on a unique topic, offering education, insight, and inspiration to members and guests.

And we’re excited to share that workshops are coming soon, offering deeper, hands-on learning for students at all levels.

Building Connections & Mentorship

Community has always been at the heart of SDAS. We are committed to fostering connection through:

  • Monthly educational lectures

  • Networking with local spiritual and wellness practitioners

  • The development of mentorship opportunities

  • Expanding our partnerships across San Diego

We are here for the astrologers of today and the astrologers of tomorrow—honoring the wisdom passed down through our elders while nurturing the curiosity of those just beginning their journey.

Whether you’re brand-new to astrology, rediscovering it, or deeply immersed in your practice, SDAS welcomes you.
