SDAS Members are invited to come join us at the annual SDAS holiday and winter solstice party featuring good food, good people, and good times. Menu-wise we’re sticking with what works — our SDAS traditional favorite, lasagna, garlic bread, salad, and an array of highly tempting desserts. Don’t worry, those of you who are vegetarian or gluten-intolerant — there will be tasty options for you.

We are asking members to bring their favorite divination tool — cards, stones, pendulum, or what ever works for you (please leave any entrails at home) — so we can have some interactive divination at the tables. Come prepared to enjoy yourself and bring a guest. This event is free to SDAS members in good standing and there is a $10 fee for each guest.

As part of the evening's celebration of the Winter Solstice, our own Vice President, Deborah Parker, will give a brief presentation. The common symbology for Capricorn and the winter solstice is that amidst the cold, the dark and the death of the surrounding landscape of the natural world hope and joy are again reignited in the knowledge that the Sun will once again climb higher in the sky, stay longer each day and nourish the earth into once again providing bounty to sustain us through the coming year.

However, that’s a northern hemisphere perspective. People south of the equator are living the opposite reality— nature in full bloom, the Sun at its highest point now making its opposite turn to shorter colder days and longer nights. Clearly northern hemispherism has dominated the images associated with the signs, but how can these two perspectives be reconciled. Deborah Parker will address this in a brief presentation at the SDAS Holiday Solstice party.
